Job Posting: Mosquito Program Technician

Looking for students interested in working to prevent mosquito and tick-borne illnesses as well as participating in the rabies surveillance program. Preference given to applicants pursuing a degree in Public Health, Environmental Health/Science, Biology, or a related field.

Hours: Mon. – Fri., 8:30am to 4:30pm (June thru Sept) will depend on student’s schedule.  

Minimum Requirements:    

  • Valid State of Ohio driver’s license, in good standing and automobile insurance
  • Must be a high school graduate
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of fundamental software
  • Good customer service, verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity and competence
  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Interest in public/environmental health
  • Ability to serve as a member of a team 
  • Must be able to read and understand written instructions, basic math skills, and understand the safe handling of pesticides
  • Must understand basic biology or science, and be capable of learning to respond to questions and concerns from the general public

Responsibilities: Will include but NOT limited to:

  • Apply mosquito larvicides with various types of equipment to control mosquito populations as necessary at various field sites and in response to residential complaints (using LCGHD vehicle)
  • Investigate/document nuisance complaints and educate residents regarding mosquitoes and ticks
  • Prepare and maintain equipment and vehicles for daily operation
  • Maintain accurate records of mosquito larvicide application and daily work activities
  • Collect, sort and maintain accurate records on mosquito collections for data input
  • Communicate effectively with the community to educate citizens on program goals, disease control and appropriate mosquito control activities
  • Represents the Board of Health in a professional manner when dealing with community officials and the general public
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Performance of duties may require the ability to handle objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds)

Salary: $14.oo/hour
