In partnership with The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Cribs for Kids®, the Lake County General Health District provides a free Graco® Pack ‘n Play or a Cribs for Kids® Cribette for income-eligible families (while quantities last). The purpose of this program is to reduce infant mortality in Lake County due to unsafe sleep practices such as co-sleeping with an infant, items in the crib, or the infant being placed to sleep in an incorrect position.  In 2017, there were four infant deaths in Lake County related to unsafe sleep practices. With education and proper practices to reduce risks, the burden of infant mortality can be reduced and prevented. The Cribs for Kids® Cribette is part of a safe sleep kit which also includes:

  • A Halo SleepSack
  • Cribette® Sheet
  • Safe sleep educational material

To receive a kit, the primary caregiver must attend an educational class provided by the Lake County General Health District. In this session, the parent(s)/caregiver(s) receive important information about safe sleep practices and proper use of the Cribette. Although a kit is only provided to the primary caregiver, anyone who will be caring for the baby is welcome to attend the appointment to receive education on safe sleep. Please note, Cribette distribution is by appointment only and while supplies last.
